Gad Whip - Abbey Lincoln Mix-Max

You know the expression, Americans: if it feels like The Fall, and it sounds like The Fall, it’s probably any musical act that involves a lead singer with a clear English accent. And by no means do Gad Whip escape that logic. English accents on display, each and every turn—except on the song I’ve uploaded here, where there’s more of a wild no-words-screaming-lady-from-DSOTM vibe at play. It builds and builds and then evacuates itself alongside a burst of primal scream therapy + free jazz. Proper exclamation point. (!).  Lady here don’t use words; she just moans/screams all over the place. Reminds me of the lady from DSOTM. But her accent? Total curveball. She could be Welsh for all I know.

If you’re a fan of more oblique and classic UK music (The Fall, the song on DSOTM with the lady screaming everywhere), you’ll want to check this out! Being big on The Pheromoans and/or avant-garde/experimental BBC Radio drama (which may not exist) might not hurt either. Gad Whip FINALLY bridge the gap between those things (if the latter does in fact exist).

I love Gad Whip. They are underappreciated. Buy all their records.
